About Bunkhouse Bourbon

A Passion for Craft

A note from the founder and CEO, Danny Flynn

My fascination with the spirit of the American West began in childhood, amidst the fields of Partridge, Kansas. Playing "Cowboys and Indians" ignited a lifelong appreciation for that era—a time characterized by untamed landscapes and individuals possessing the grit to carve out their own destinies. Figures like John Wayne, Doc Holliday, and Wyatt Earp, though morally ambiguous, captivated my imagination. This romanticism of the West, perhaps surprisingly, finds a parallel in my appreciation for bourbon.

Now, I’ll admit, my experience with alcohol outside of bourbon is… limited. In my 61 years, I’ve probably consumed no more than a single twelve-pack of beer. My introduction to spirits involved a taste of Black Label Jack Daniel's—yes, I'm aware it's technically a Tennessee whiskey, a distinction we'll explore later. I was immediately drawn to the nuanced, non-sweet flavor profile. Since then, I've cultivated a collection and a deep understanding of various bourbons and whiskeys which I've come to truly enjoy.

The Launch of Bunkhouse Bourbon

As I observe the current "bourbon bubble," I'm struck by the landscape. We now have individuals who make a living dictating what bourbons one should drink and prescribing specific tasting notes, often dismissing dissenting opinions.

With all due respect, I fundamentally disagree with this approach.

After all, what constitutes the "best" bourbon? It's quite simple: it’s the one you genuinely enjoy. Whether you prefer to sip it deliberately, gulp it enthusiastically, or savor it slowly, that choice is yours—and it's absolutely valid.

Price, frankly, is another area of concern. One hopes that this speculative bubble will eventually burst, returning some sanity to the market. Though, realistically, that may be wishful thinking. The core point is this: whether it's an expensive bottle or an affordable one, if it pleases your palate, it is, by definition, perfect for you. Your taste is your own, not that of an influencer. After all, even something as fundamental as a steak tastes different to each individual.

Our Purpose: God, Family, Bourbon

My objective isn't to amass a massive following; frankly, the number of followers is of little concern to me. Rather, I aim to share my personal tasting experiences and engage in conversations about your own preferences. This is a passion project, not a pursuit of vast sales figures. I also want to emphasize the importance of moderation in all alcohol consumption. My grandfather struggled with alcoholism, and I've witnessed firsthand the devastating consequences it can have.

If you're interested in joining me on this journey, I invite you to check in periodically. We will be offering some merchandise and, in the future, a limited selection of bottles. Always remember our guiding principle: "God, Family, Bourbon." These are the values I hold most dear. Prioritize your faith, cherish every moment with your family, and, on occasion, enjoy a bourbon in the company of loved ones.
